$2Billion Miami Intermodal Center Adds More Strength to The New City’s Infrastructure
Miami continues to grow as a global city also by steadily expanding the city’s infrastructure. The Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) was originally discussed in the early 1980s when county officials foresaw the need to create connectivity for the region as Miami-Dade began to attract big business and the city grew westward. Now MIC is under construction and it is definitely another key element in the infrastructure needed to support the city’s traffic, commerce, business and cargo growth.
Located just east of the Miami International Airport, the Miami Intermodal Center is a massive $2 billion ground transportation hub being built by the Florida Department of Transportation.
The MIC Program consists of several components: major roadway improvements, including a reconfigured Le Jeune Road, completed in May 2008; the user-friendly Rental Car Center which opened for business in July 2010; the MIA Mover which became operational in September 2011 and connects MIA to the Rental Car Center; the Miami Central Station, currently under construction and scheduled to be completed by early 2014; and Joint Development which is currently being explored.
When complete, the MIC will provide connectivity via various modes of transportation between Palm Beach County, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and the Florida Keys, making regional travel easier for residents and visitors. It is already decongesting the roadways in and around the busy airport.
MIC as well as all the great investments in the city’s infrastructure will keep undoubtedly adding even more appreciation to Miami’s properties.
